Health authorities report 16 cases of H1N1 avian flu in Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnamese health authorities have reported an outbreak of the H1N1 bird flu at the Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. According to the report, the virus was introduced to the hospital via a patient on Saturday, June 2. By June 3, 16 cases were reported. Affected individuals include both patients and hospital personal. Around 80 individuals have potentially been exposed to the virus.

Vietnam was struck by an H1N1 epidemic in 2009.
H1N1 influenza is an acute respiratory infection of varying severity, ranging from asymptomatic infection to fatal. Typical influenza symptoms include fever with abrupt onset, chills, sore throat, and dry cough, often accompanied by headache, inflammation of mucus membranes, muscle pain, and extreme exhaustion.
