Côte d'Ivoire: Gas shortages in Abidjan and other cities

Gas shortages reported in several cities across the country, including Abidjan and Yamoussoukro, as of July 31

Warning

Event

Gas supplies have been disrupted for several weeks in Abidjan and other cities throughout the country, such as the capital Yamoussoukro, resulting in significant shortages as of Tuesday, July 31. It is unclear when normal deliveries will resume. In the meantime, public transportation disruptions are to be anticipated, notably in Yamoussoukro.

Context

The shortages are due to the destruction of a dyke, which caused the collapse of gas infrastructure of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan. As a result, vessels transporting butane gas and propane have been forced to anchor in the lagoon or at sea and make small vessels transport cargo between the ships and the port.

Advice

Individuals in Côte d'Ivoire are advised to keep abreast of the situation and conserve gas in the short term.
