Heat advisories issued for nine southeastern departments July 31 to August 1

The French weather service Météo France has issued orange heat alerts - the second-highest level - for nine southeastern departments. As of Tuesday morning, July 31 (local time), the warnings are in effect in Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Drôme, Gard, Hérault, Isère, Pyrénées-Orientales, Rhône, and Vaucluse. Highs of up to 39°C (102°F) are currently forecast in these areas through at least 21:00 (local time) on August 1.

This heat could be hazardous to health, particularly for the elderly, young children, and people suffering from chronic illnesses such as cardiac issues, hypertension, and diabetes. Symptoms of heatstroke include high fever, hot, red, dry skin, headache, nausea, drowsiness, intense thirst, confusion, convulsions, and loss of consciousness.
