Thunderstorm alerts in effect in eight southwestern departments July 16; flooding, transportation disruptions possible

The Météo France weather service has issued orange thunderstorm alerts, the second-highest on a four-point scale, for areas in the southwest of the country. As of noon (local time) on Monday, July 16, alerts are in effect in the following eight departments: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, and Averyron. Related air and rail disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, flooding, and power outages are possible.
