Spain: Ibiza Airport security personnel announce indefinite strike from July 20
Airport security personnel announce plans for indefinite strike at Ibiza Airport (IBZ) beginning July 20; flight disruptions possible
Event
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) security personnel have announced they plan to launch an indefinite strike beginning on Friday, July 20. The workers say they are striking to demand performance bonuses and a decreased workload, claiming that airport operators are violating the terms of an agreement reached to end a previous strike in July 2017. A regional arbitration court is currently involved in negotiations, but local sources do not expect an agreement to be reached before the strike begins on July 20. A similar strike by workers at Ibiza Airport last year lasted eight days before an agreement with management was reached. By law, the security workers must provide a minimum service level of 90 percent, but the strike is still likely to cause periodic delays in security lines during busy times such as were reported during previous strikes.
Advice
Individuals flying to or from IBZ on or after July 20 are advised to expect delays in security lines and to be prepared for disruptions. Potentially impacted travelers should contact their airline for more information.
