Chile: Nationwide teachers' strike and demonstration August 28 /update 1

The National Assembly of the College of Teachers has called for a nationwide strike to take place on Tuesday, August 28. According to union representatives, the strike is being organized to demand better working conditions in classrooms as well as education reforms. A demonstration will be held starting at 10:30 (local time) between Plaza Baquedano and Echaurren. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are anticipated in the vicinity of any gatherings.
