Chile: Storm alerts for center-south August 8 /update 1

Event

Red storm alerts - the highest level - were issued early on Wednesday, August 8, by the National Emergency Office (ONEMI) for the central-southern regions of La Araucanía, Los Ríos, and Los Lagos. Heavy rain, and associated flooding and transportation disruptions, as well as strong winds are to be anticipated. Some areas have reportedly been cut off due to flooded roads.

Furthermore, red alerts issued earlier in the week for riverside flooding in the communes of Puerto Montt and Osorno (Los Lagos region) remain in effect.

Individuals in the above areas are advised to keep abreast of the situation, follow local weather reports and any instructions issued by the local authorities, and avoid flood-prone areas until the situation stabilizes.
