Northern Europe: Flight disruptions likely August 7 due to storms
Flight disruptions expected on the afternoon/evening of August 7 in northern Europe due to violent thunderstorms
Event
Violent thunderstorms, including strong wind and hail, are forecast for northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Germany beginning at around 17:00 (local time) on Tuesday, August 7. EuroControl (the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation) has warned that flight disruptions are expected at airports throughout the above areas, notably in the Paris region. Knock-on disruptions are possible throughout Western Europe, with residual disruptions also possible on August 8.
Other transportation disruptions, inducing hazardous driving conditions and rail disruptions, are likely in concerned areas, along with power outages.
The French weather service Météo France has issued orange storm alerts - the second highest level - for the center-north of the country (including Paris). As a reminder, orange heatwave alerts are also in effect in much of the country.
Advice
Individuals in the above areas are advised to follow local weather reports and confirm the status of their flights and other travel reservations prior to departure for the airport.
