Dominican Rep.: Truck driver strike September 25-28

Truck drivers to strike at seaports in the Dominican Republic September 25-28; consumer goods shortages possible

Warning

Event

The Fenatrado truck driver union (Federación Dominicana del Transporte) has called for a 72-hour strike to begin at 06:00 (local time) on Tuesday, September 25, to denounce rising fuel prices. The strike will affect deliveries to and from all of the country’s seaports. The union has promised that striking workers will not block access to the ports, although such actions cannot be completely ruled out. Associated shortages of consumer goods are possible, particularly if the strike is renewed.

Advice

Individuals in the Dominican Republic are advised to keep abreast of the situation and to stock up on any essential items ahead of the strike.
