Islamic State (IS) claims responsibility for the Sep. 10 attack on National Oil Corporation complex in Tripoli that killed two workers
Event
On Tuesday, September 11, the Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the September 10 attack on National Oil Corporation's (NOC) headquarters in Tripoli that killed two NOC workers and injured ten others. Additional attacks in the area and on Libyan oil fields cannot be ruled out in the coming days and weeks.
Context
The NOC headquarters came under attack on September 10, when six attackers detonated explosives and took hostages. Rada Deterrence Forces (RDF) were able to regain control of the complex around midnight September 10-11 killing three assailants in the operation.
IS militants have continued to carry out attacks on security forces and infrastructure in Libya since being driven from their former stronghold of Sirte in late 2016.
