Myanmar: Arrival and departure card system ends Sep. 12

Event

Beginning on September 12, foreign nationals will no longer need to fill in arrival or departure cards at Yangon (RGN), Mandalay (MDL), and Nay Pyi Taw (NYT) international airports. This move is intended to promote the country's tourism sector and attract more foreign visitors to the country.

Context

In 2017, Myanmar (a.k.a. Burma) attracted 3.4 million foreign visitors. Authorities now hope to receive 7 million yearly visitors by 2020.

Advice

As a reminder, foreign nationals traveling to Myanmar must obtain a visa prior to departure. One should apply at the nearest Burmese embassy or consulate well in advance of travel.
