Belgium: Residual disruptions expected after Brussels metro evacuations Oct. 3

Residual disruptions are to be expected on the Brussels metro and tram systems after the De Brouckère and Rogier metro stations were temporarily closed on the afternoon (local time) of Wednesday, October 3, due to a suspicious odor. The odor was determined to be from a commercial product used for work in the stations following an investigation. The De Brouckère and Rogier metro stations have since been reopened and service to the stations has resumed.

Police initially ordered the closure of lines 1 and 5 of the metro between Beekkant and Arts-loi and lines 2 and 6 between Elisabeth and Arts-loi following reports of the odor. Trams 3 and 4 are reportedly still not running between Lemonnier and Gare du Nord as of late Wednesday afternoon. Despite these disruptions, regularly scheduled rail transportation services are expected to resume in the coming hours.
