An express train derails in Uttar Pradesh, killing seven and injuring dozens more, on October 10; rail disruptions expected

A high-speed train derailed in Uttar Pradesh around 06:00 (local time) on Wednesday, October 10, killing at least seven people. The engine car and at least five others derailed from unknown causes near Harchandpur in Raebareli district, approximately 60 km (36 mi). The crash injured 35 people, including nine who are in critical condition. The train was traveling from Malda (West Bengal) to New Delhi on the New Farakka Express line. The derailment is expected to take 24 to 36 hours to clear from the track. At least 13 trains have been diverted or terminated as of 10:30.
