Russia: Deadly flooding in Krasnodar Krai region (southwest)

Six killed due to heavy flooding in Krasnodar Krai region (south) as of October 26; associated transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Deadly flooding has been reported in the southwestern region of Krasnodar Krai following heavy rain that hit the region October 24-25. At least six people have been killed and another has been reported missing as of Friday, October 26. Around 400 people have been evacuated from Tuapse district.

The flooding has caused severe transportation disruptions; local train and bus services have been suspended and traffic on the A-147 motorway has been blocked due to the collapse of a bridge crossing the Makopse River. Electricity and running water have been cut in affected areas. Further disruptions are expected in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in affected regions are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders). Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
