In the Panamericana Sur area, taxis started driving down Maldonado Avenue before traveling through Villaflora and Machángara to El Trébol. The second convoy moved through the Guamaní area to Quito’s Historic Center along Mariscal Sucre Avenue. A third caravan traveled down Avenida 6 de Diciembre to Parque El Arbolito. Further protests by taxi drivers are possible in the coming days and weeks.

Context

Union leaders organized the go-slow convoys in protest of a proposed ordinance that would increase the number of legal taxis in Quito.

Advice

Individuals in Quito are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, plan alternative routes around the protests, and allow additional time to travel.
