Tropical Depression TD03F is likely to strengthen to a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (40 mph) on approach to Fiji over the coming hours as of forecasts on Monday, December 31. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the storm may bring winds gusting up to 90 km/h (56 mph) to Rotuma from Monday afternoon (local time), to Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and northern Viti Levu from Monday evening, and to Lau and Lomaiviti group on Tuesday, January 1. Periods of heavy rainfall are forecast in affected areas.
Localized flooding, transportation disruptions (e.g. road closures, flight delays and cancelations), and power outages are to be expected over the coming hours.
