Mauritius: Disruptions reported following Tropical Cyclone Gelena Feb. 10 /update 2

Disruptions have been reported on Sunday, February 10, in Mauritius following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Gelena overnight (local time) on February 9-10. According to local sources, multiple buildings were damaged on Rodrigues Island, an autonomous territory located some 560 km (350 mi) east from the main island of Mauritius. In addition, power outages reportedly affected 90 percent of households on Rodrigues Island. A tropical cyclone warning was lifted in Rodrigues at approximately 13:10; nevertheless residual transportation disruptions, as well as continued power outages, are expected in the coming hours.

Context

Mauritius experiences an annual cyclone season from November through April, during which time tropical storms and torrential rain can result in significant material damage.
