Niger: Boko Haram kills seven soldiers in southeast Niger February 15

Nigerien government officials confirmed the deaths of seven soldiers during a Boko Haram raid in southeastern Niger on Friday, February 15. Authorities released a statement on Saturday, February 16, confirming the deaths of seven soldiers and one militant during an attack on a military base near Chetimari (Diffa region), approximately 25 km (15 mi) southwest of Diffa. Six other soldiers were wounded in the assault. The military claimed to have pursued the militants and captured eight fighters and three vehicles. Further militant and military activity are possible in southwestern Niger in the coming weeks.

Boko Haram and affiliated groups maintain the ability to conduct attacks in the Lake Chad region despite ongoing military operations in the area.
