Spain: Taxi drivers strike continues in Madrid February 4 /update 8

As of Monday, February 4, the taxi drivers strike ongoing since January 21 to demand increased regulation on ride-sharing services such as Uber and Cabify, continues in Madrid.  Further  related protests are likely to take place in the capital in the coming hours and days, notably around the People's Party headqarters located on Génova street and at Puerta del Sol, where previous protests were held.  Associated transportation disruptions and traffic congestion are to be anticipated. 

Context

Daily protests have taken place since January 23, with taxi drivers blocking major roads in the capital.

Taxi drivers in Barcelona launched a similar strike on January 18. On January 23, the Catalan regional government offered new regulations for ride-sharing companies, prompting Uber and Cabify to cease operation in Barcelona starting from February 1.
