Turkey: 5.1-magnitude earthquake hits Çanakkale province February 20

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 9 km (6 mi) south-southeast of Ezine (Çanakkale province) at 21:23 (local time) on Wednesday, February 20. Light shaking was felt in Istanbul, according to witnesses. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in affected area are advised to monitor the situation, be prepared for further aftershocks, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities. During an earthquake, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows and exterior walls, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger.
