Greece: Severe flooding reported in Euboea March 6

Heavy rainfall and flooding across Euboea district prompted officials in the city of Chalcis to declare a state of emergency on Wednesday, March 6. Scores of homes, farms, and businesses throughout  Euboea have been flooded, with damage reported to bridges and roads, notably in the areas of Dokos, Aghia Eleousa, and Liani Ammos. The state of emergency is in effect until June and the local government has requested disaster relief assistance from central authorities. Lingering flooding and transportation disruptions are to be expected in Euboea over the coming hours and days as drier weather moves into most affected areas.

Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
