Hungary: Demonstration reported in Budapest March 21

A demonstration was reported outside the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) in Budapest on Thursday, March 21. Some 1000 protesters were in attendance, denouncing government intentions to reform the institution; critics of the plan claim that it will impede academic freedom.

Similar demonstrations are possible in Budapest over the near term amid a heightened security presence. Localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near related protests and clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
