5.7-magnitude earthquake hits Burdur province in southwestern Turkey on March 20; no casualties reported

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded in southwestern Turkey on Wednesday, March 20. The earthquake struck around 09:34 (local time) in Burdur province, approximately 117 km (73 mi) west-northwest of Antalya (Antalya province). No casualties were reported as of 10:30 from the earthquake or two smaller aftershocks. Further aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

Individuals in the affected area are advised to anticipate aftershocks and associated damage and disruptions to travel and power.

In the event of further earthquakes and aftershocks, individuals should protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows and exterior walls (ideally in a corner), and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
