Germany changes its travel advice for citizens traveling to Turkey, warns of risk of arrest related to association or speech

Germany adjusted its travel advice for Turkey on Saturday, March 9, warning its citizens of the risk of arrest and detention due to issues pertaining to freedom of expression and affiliation. In an updated advisory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that arbitrary detention of German nationals has increased in the past two years, including for German citizens who are affiliated with the Gülen movement, including sharing social media posts critical of the Turkish government.
