Greece: Multiple protests planned nationwide April 6

Various groups are planning to hold demonstrations in major urban areas, including Athens, to protest Greece's membership in NATO on April 6; avoid all protests

Multiple demonstrations to protest Greece’s NATO membership are scheduled to take place in major urban areas across the country on Saturday, April 6. In central Athens, leftist and anarchist groups are planning to rally outside of the US Embassy beginning at 13:00 (local time). Leftist and student groups are also scheduled to hold an associated demonstration outside the US Consulate in the Kamara area of Thessaloniki at 12:00. Rallies are also set to begin at 18:00 in Larisa’s Tahidromiou square, Xanthi’s Elefterias square, and Erinis square in Komotini. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all protest sites.

Individuals in the abovementioned areas, and Greece more generally, are advised to avoid all demonstrations and large public gatherings as a precaution and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
