Event
Militants, reportedly affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) group, attacked the town of Al- Foqha (Jufra district) on Tuesday, April 9, killing three people and kidnapping several others. Similar attacks in Jufra district are possible over the coming weeks.
Context
A similar attack was carried out by IS militants in Al-Foqha in October 2018, in which four people were killed and eight others kidnapped.
IS militants have continued to carry out attacks on security forces and infrastructure in Libya since being driven out of their former stronghold of Sirte in late 2016.
Advice
The security environment in Libya remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with appropriate security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
