Railway and bus driver unions launch separate nationwide strikes April 9-10; transportation disruptions expected

Railway workers and bus drivers launched two separate nationwide strikes beginning at 00:00 (local time) on Tuesday, April 9. The All Island Bus Employees Association stated that their drivers would participate in a 24-hour token strike on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Railway Operators Trade Union PMP announced a 48-hour strike for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 10. Station masters, drivers, controllers, supervisors, and guards are expected to participate in the action. Associated transportation disruptions, including interrupted services and increased demand for alternative modes of transportation, are expected during this period. Further strikes cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.
