Guatemala: Presidential and legislative elections June 16

Presidential and legislative elections will be held in Guatemala on Sunday, June 16. Voters will go to the polls to select the president, vice president, and deputies to the Congress, Parliament, and municipal governments. The Ministry of the Interior (Mingob) and the Supreme Electoral Tribune (TSE) announced in late May that proper security will be in place to protect voters. According to officials, 100 percent of police officers will be deployed to polling stations, who will coordinate with the military and the TSE. A National Security plan will also be implemented from Friday, June 14, through Monday, June 17. Heightened security measures are expected across the country during the vote. Associated political demonstration are also possible in the days leading up to and after the election.
