Mexico: Nationwide demonstrations planned May 10
Civil society groups plan marches nationwide, including in Mexico City, on May 10; heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions around all protest sites

A series of marches are scheduled to take place in major cities around Mexico on Friday, May 10, to commemorate missing children. The demonstrations are being organized under the Movement for Our Disappeared in Mexico, which is a collective of organizations of relatives of missing persons in Mexico and other Central American countries. Marches will be held in Mexico City, Puerto de Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos, Xalapa, Orizaba-Córdoba, Ciudad Juárez, Guaymas, Hermosillo, Cajeme, Culiacán, Querétaro, Morelos, Ciudad Victoria, Ciudad Reynosa, and Torreón. Associated demonstrations are also possible in other cities nationwide. The event in Mexico City, which is called the “March for Dignity,” will being at 10:00 (local time), with participants gathering at the Estacionamiento Deprisa Monumento a la Madre before marching to the Ángel de la Independencia. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all demonstrations.
Context
The event in Mexico City will be the eighth March for Dignity organized by the civil society groups. According to activists, at least 40,000 people are missing, and group leaders have accused the government of failing to adequately respond.
