Warning

Event

The APSE teachers' unions in Costa Rica have called for strikes and related protests to take place at 09:00 (local time) on Tuesday, June 18, and on Tuesday, June 25. The unions will protest in opposition to a proposed bill that would reduce the educational budget and restrict teachers' rights, including the right to strike.

In addition, the ANDE teachers' union also called for related strikes and protests to take place on Wednesday, June 19, and Wednesday, June 26. All protests are expected to start at Central Park in San José and proceed to the Legislative Assembly. Demonstrations in other cities cannot be ruled out.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are to be expected around all protest sites.

Advice

Individuals in Costa Rica, particularly those in the capital San José, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruptions and a heightened security presence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
