Costa Rica: Officials close Liberia International Airport in Liberia on Nov. 15 due to runway repairs
Authorities close Liberia International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica, Nov. 15 to repair damaged runway. All flights cancelled.
Officials at the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (Direccion General de Aviacion Civil, DGAC) have closed the Liberia International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, Guanacaste, on Nov. 15 to repair the airport's runway. Authorities said the damages are not significant and the airport should reopen late Nov. 15. 36 flights are cancelled.
Flight delays and cancellations are possible on Nov. 16, even if the runway reopens, as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs and reposition aircraft.
Contact your airline and do not leave your accommodation until onward travel is confirmed Nov. 15-16. Arrive early at the airport to allow additional time for processing. Consider alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel.
