Warning

Event

The Mexican government announced on Sunday, June 23, that it will deploy 52,000 additional members of the National Guard across 150 territorial regions to combat crime. The deployment will begin on Sunday, June 30, and will eventually reach 82,000 troops by the end of the year. An increased security presence, particularly at various police and military posts, is to be expected nationwide. Heightened security measures, including an increase in checkpoints and police operations, are also possible throughout the country.

Advice

Individuals in Mexico are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant for criminal activity, anticipate a heightened security presence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments. Due to extreme levels of violence linked to the presence of various armed groups, some Western governments advise against travel to various parts of the country, notably the states of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas, as well as the northeastern border with the US.
