Mexico: Nationwide anti-government protests planned June 30

Nationwide anti-government protests expected on June 30; transportation disruptions likely near all demonstrations

Warning

Event

Nationwide anti-government protests are expected on Sunday, June 30, to denounce President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his administration. Participants seek to demand that the president complies with various federal laws and to demand greater security.

The march in Mexico City will begin at Monument to the Revolution at 11:00 (local time) and proceed towards the Angel of Independence. Protests should be expected in other urban centers across Mexico.

Associated transportation and commercial disruptions and a heightened security presence are very likely near all protests. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Mexico, particularly in Mexico City, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all demonstration areas as a precaution, anticipate transportation and business disruptions and a heightened security presence, and obey instructions issued by the local authorities.
