Event

Chilean authorities have issued an environmental alert for the Santiago metropolitan area for Thursday, July 11 due to poor air quality. Individuals are asked to avoid using wood-burning heaters and wood byproducts.

There is also a vehicular restriction in place in the Americo Vespucio ring, where cars with a green seal ending in 0 and 1 are able to circulate. Cars without green stickers and motorcycles whose plates end in 0, 1, 2, and 3 may not circulate within the ring.

A detailed description of the restrictions can be found here.

Advice

Individuals in Chile are advised to abide by instructions issued by the authorities (e.g. driving restrictions), expect busier-than-normal conditions on public transit, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during periods of elevated pollution levels due to health concerns, particularly children and those with chronic respiratory illnesses.
