Unions representing taxi drivers plan protests to ride-sharing services nationwide on July 17 and 23; heightened security presence and traffic disruptions expected

Taxi drivers’ unions are organizing protests on Wednesday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 23, to call for increased regulations on ride-sharing services in the country. The July 17 demonstration will be held in the capital San José starting at 09:00 (local time). Participants will gather at Paseo Colón before marching to the Legislative Assembly. Nationwide marches are being organized for July 23, although specific details regarding the protests have not been released as of Tuesday, July 9. A heightened police presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around all marches. Reduced taxi service is also expected during the protests.
