Warning

Event

Taxi drivers’ unions are organizing protests on Wednesday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 23, to call for increased regulations on ride-sharing services in the country. The July 17 demonstration will be held in the capital San José starting at 09:00 (local time). Participants will gather at Paseo Colón before marching to the Legislative Assembly.

An estimated 100 taxi drivers are also expected to conduct intermittent protest at the Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO), causing road blockades and service disruptions throughout Wednesday.

Nationwide marches are being organized for July 23, although specific details regarding the protests have not been released as of Tuesday, July 9.

Wednesday's protest is expected to have a low attendance due to planned vacation by assembly members.

A heightened police presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around all marches. Reduced taxi service is also expected during the protests.

Advice

Individuals in Costa Rica, particularly San José and traveling via SJO, are advised to keep abreast of the situation, prepare for associated transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
