More protests scheduled in Santo Domingo on July 21; heightened security measures expected

The Democratic Coalition has scheduled a protest for Sunday, July 21, to oppose a measure that would change presidential term limits outlined by the constitution. Protesters will gather at 10:00 (local time) at the Enriquillo Park and later march to Independence Park.

More protests are expected in the coming days and weeks.

A heightened security presence is possible near all protests. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.  

Context

Protesters have been opposing a proposal to remove presidential term limits since June, which is largely advocated by President Danilo Medina's supporters. President Medina is currently serving his second term in office.
