Mexico: Hurricane Barbara approaches Mexico July 2

Event

Hurricane Barbara - now measuring as a category 2 storm - is forecast to become a Category 3 storm on Tuesday, July 2, and is approaching Mexico's western coast. Barbara was located approximately 1695 km (1053 mi) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California as of 20:00 (local time) on Monday, July 1. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. It will later weaken by Friday, July 5.

Context

Mexico's Pacific Hurricane Season extends from May 15 to November 30 (and the Atlantic Hurricane Season from June 1 to November 30), with the largest concentration of storms typically occurring between August and October.
