Greece: Heatwave warnings nationwide August 1-4

Authorities issue heatwave warnings across the country from August 1-4; drink fluids and avoid outdoor and strenuous activities

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) warned that extremely high temperatures are forecast throughout Greece from Thursday, August 1, into Sunday, August 4. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 38-39°C (100-102°F) in most areas on Friday, August 2, and Saturday, August 3. Some regions, including Thessaly, Fthiotida, Boeotia, and eastern Peloponnese may experience temperatures up to 42°C (108°F) on Saturday. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to drop down to around 35°C (95°F).

Advice

Individuals in Greece are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid strenuous activities or spending time outdoors, particularly during midday, wear loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and avoid dehydrating liquids, such as alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks, and seek immediate medical attention if exhibiting symptoms of heat stroke, such as nausea, confusion, headache, rapid and strong pulse, and dry skin.
