Sudan: Flooding leaves 62 killed as of August 25 /update 1

According to the SUNA official state news agency, recent torrential rains affecting at least 15 states across the country, including the capital Khartoum, have left at least 62 people dead and 98 others injured as of Sunday, August 25. According to the United Nations, more than 200,000 people are reported to be affected and 37,000 houses destroyed or damaged, with the White Nile and Blue Nile states being the more affected. The flood has furthermore caused significant disruptions to daily-life activities throughout Sudan, including transportation, public services, and water supply disruptions.

Heavy rainfall is forecast to continue into the coming weeks as the rainy season is expected to last until October. Additional flooding and transportation disruptions are possible, particularly in already inundated areas.
