Bulgaria: Protests in downtown Sofia September 11-12

Demonstrations to take place in downtown Sofia September 11-12; heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions expected

A series of demonstrations are slated to take place in downtown Sofia on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12. Demonstrations in support of the nomination of Ivan Geshev for Chief Prosecutor of Bulgaria are slated to take place near the Council of Ministers on Wednesday starting at 17:00 (local time). Healthcare professionals will hold a separate demonstration near the National Assembly from 15:00 to 22:00 on Wednesday. On Thursday, Geshev's supporters will hold another rally near the Council of Ministers at 14:00, with opposition protests scheduled to take place at 15:00 near the Court House.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of all protests.
