Costa Rica: Nationwide education workers’ strike September 2, 3

Unions representing professors launch two-day strike starting on September 2; associated demonstrations possible

The Teachers and Secondary Education Association (APSE) and the Costa Rican National Educators' Association (ANDE) have called for a 48-hour nationwide strike on Monday, September 2, and Tuesday, September 3. Educators are to protest a retirement age increase and a decrease in pension pay, among other grievances. One protest will also take place on Monday, as of 14:00 (local time) at the Legislative Assembly in San José. Another is scheduled for Tuesday staring at 10:00, also at the Legislative Assembly.

Localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the protests.
