Honduras: Heightened security expected nationwide September 28-October 6

Heightened security expected as Honduras celebrates the Morazánico holiday September 28-October 6

Warning

Event

Heightened security measures are expected to be implemented across Honduras as the country prepares to celebrate the Morazánico holiday from Saturday, September 28, as of 06:00 (local time) through Sunday, October 6. The official holiday period begins on Wednesday, October 2, though an increased security presence is due to the high number of domestic and foreign travelers in the country both before, during, and after the holiday. Police will be deployed on highways, in urban centers, and at tourist attractions.

Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in Tegucigalpa and other urban centers across the country.

Advice

Individuals in Honduras are advised to anticipate a heavier than usual security presence, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and avoid any large gatherings as a precaution.
