Pope Francis will visit the capital Port-Louis September 9; heightened security measures and crowded conditions expected

Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Port-Louis on Monday, September 9. He is expected to arrive at Port-Louis' Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) at 10:40 (local time) on Monday, where a welcome ceremony will be held. The Pope will hold mass and meetings at various locations throughout the capital during his visit. Later that day, Francis will fly from Port-Louis to Antananarivo (Madagascar); a farewell ceremony will be held at MRU at 18:45.

Heightened security measures, including an increase in checkpoints and movement restrictions, will likely be in place around all of papal events and at the airport. Crowded conditions are anticipated in Maputo during the papal visit.
