Tropical Storm Lorena forecast to pass near the coast of Mexico from September 19-20; heavy rain, strong gusts, and associated disruptions expected

The Mexican Meteorological Service issued weather warnings at 19:00 (local time) on Tuesday, September 17, ahead of the passage of Tropical Storm Lorena. As of 19:00 on Tuesday, Lorena is located at 14.8°N 101.6°W (map here), according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC). The tropical storm is tracking northwest at 24 kph (15 mph) with maximum sustained winds of 80 kph (50 mph). Lorena is expected to pass near or into the coast of Mexico on Wednesday, September 18, through Friday, September 20, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to several states, including Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Puebla, Colima, and Jalisco.
Associated power outages and disruptions to transportation and business services are possible in areas forecast to be affected by the system over the coming days.
