Congo: Fuel shortages in Brazzaville October 11

A fuel shortage is affecting the capital Brazzaville as of Friday, October 11. The reason for the shortage remains unclear, although some sources have stated the shortage is due to logistical issues with the transport of petroleum products between the cities of Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. The shortage is also resulting in long lines at gas stations in Brazzaville, as well as transportation disruptions.

Associated protests cannot be ruled out as Brazzaville is reportedly experiencing recurrent fuel shortages.

Individuals present in Brazzaville are advised to fill up vehicles whenever fuel is available, ensure sufficient fuel reserves before all long journeys, and expect longer waiting times at gas stations. In Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, individuals are advised to keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible. Keep in mind that crime rates tend to rise after nightfall in areas without street lighting, and be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning. Generally speaking, individuals throughout the country are advised to avoid all demonstrations and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
