Dominican Republic: Violence and irregularities reported during primary elections October 6

A series of irregularities and violence were reported outside voting centers across the country on Sunday, October 6, during a primary election. The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) confirmed reports of a violent attack that took place in Verón, as well as other isolated incident across the country. Other groups have reported irregularities, such as the purchase of votes outside of polling centers and technical glitches restricting who citizens could vote for.

An estimated 48,000 police officers were mobilized to polling centers nationwide to guarantee peace during the vote.

Opposition protests are possible across the country as the official results emerge.
