Groups to protest in Guatemala City on October 17; transportation disruptions expected

The Peasant Development Committee (CODECA) has called for a protest on Thursday, October 17, demanding that the government revoke the state of siege it has implemented in 22 municipalities. Participants will gather at the municipality building as of 06:00 (local time) and will later proceed via Sixth Avenue towards the Congress building. Road blockades may be used as a tool of protest, possibly causing significant transportation disruptions throughout, into, and out of the capital.

Traffic disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be expected in the vicinity of the protest.
