Civil society groups call for a commemorative march in Mexico City on October 2; heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions expected

Several civil society groups have called for march in Mexico City on Wednesday, October 2, to commemorate the 51 students that died in a protest in 1968. Participants plan to gather at Tlatelolco at 16:00 (local time) and then march to Zócalo.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has called for protesters to remain peaceful, and has said that there will be a heightened security presence in the capital during the march. Localized transport disruptions along the march route are also likely.
