Military transport planes crashes at Lviv’s Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (LWO) on October 4; runway closed as recovery operations continue

A military transport plane crashed while attempted to land at Lviv’s Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (LWO) on the morning (local time) of Friday, October 4. According to initial reports, the aircraft disappeared from the airport's radar around 07:10 while approaching the runway and was found approximately 1.5 km (1 mi) away from the airport around 07:45. Local government officials said that seven individuals were onboard the aircraft and that some fatalities have been reported. Emergency personnel have deployed to the area and an investigation into the crash is ongoing. LWO officials have closed the runway as a precaution. Residual flight delays are expected over the coming hours.
